- 5 cups warm water
- 2-3 Tbls of dry yeast
- ½ cup sugar or honey
- ½ cup shortening
- 8 tsps salt
- 12 cups flour
- 2 cubes of butter softened
- 1 ½ cups sugar
- 3-5 tbsp of grated orange zest
- Brown sugar
- Cinnamon
Dough: (I do this in my Bosch)
In a large bowl pour 5 cups warm water. Add 2-3 Tbls of dry yeast. Sprinkle with a little sugar. When yeast is dissolved, add:
- ½ cup sugar or honey
- ½ cup shortening
- 8 tsps salt
- 6 cups flour
Beat on high speed for 3 minutes. Add 4 to 6 more cups of flour until dough cleans the side of the bowl. Let rise. Divide dough in half. Roll into large rectangle.
For cinnamon rolls:
Spread with soft butter. Spread with a layer of brown sugar. Sprinkle with layer of cinnamon. (can add nuts or raisins)
For orange rolls: mix together:
- 2 cubes of butter softened
- 1 ½ cups sugar
- 3-5 tbsp of grated orange zest
- Spread mixture on rectangle of dough.
Roll up dough (spread with goodness!) along long edge of rectangle. Cut with thread into individual rolls. Place slightly apar t on a greased pan. Let rise until double, about 40 minutes. Bake at 375° until slightly golden on top, about 25-30 minutes. Spread with frosting!
