Recipe Details

Prep Time: 1.5 hours (with rising time)
Cook Time: 30 Minutes
Ingredients:
  • 5 cups warm water
  • 2-3 Tbls of dry yeast
  • ½ cup sugar or honey
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 8 tsps salt
  • 12 cups flour
  • 2 cubes of butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 3-5 tbsp of grated orange zest
  • Brown sugar
  • Cinnamon

Dough: (I do this in my Bosch)

In a large bowl pour 5 cups warm water.  Add 2-3 Tbls of dry yeast.  Sprinkle with a little sugar.  When yeast is dissolved, add:

  • ½ cup sugar or honey
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 8 tsps salt
  • 6 cups flour

Beat on high speed for 3 minutes.  Add 4 to 6 more cups of flour until dough cleans the side of the bowl.  Let rise.  Divide dough in half.  Roll into large rectangle.

For cinnamon rolls:

Spread with soft butter.  Spread with a layer of brown sugar.  Sprinkle with layer of cinnamon. (can add nuts or raisins)

For orange rolls:  mix together:

  • 2 cubes of butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 3-5 tbsp of grated orange zest
  • Spread mixture on rectangle of dough.

Roll up dough (spread with goodness!) along long edge of rectangle.  Cut with thread into individual rolls.  Place slightly apar t on a greased pan.  Let rise until double, about 40 minutes.  Bake at 375° until slightly golden on top, about 25-30 minutes.  Spread with frosting!
