Recipe Details

Cook Time: 35 Minutes
Ingredients:
  • 10-12 apples (Rome Beauty or Jonathan)
  • 1½ brown sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • ¾ cup water
  • ¾ cup butter, melted
  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¾ tsp salt

Use Rome Beauty or Jonathan apples.

10-12 apples

Peel, core and cut into fourths.

Place these in a saucepan with:

¾ cups brown sugar

1 ½ tsp cinnamon

1 tbsp lemon juice

¾ cup water

Simmer for about 10 minutes. Apples should not be mushy. Pour off some of the liquid (about half) and spread evenly into a greased 9×13 dish.

Topping:

¾ cups brown sugar

¾ cup butter, melted

1 ½ cups flour

1 ½ tsp baking powder

¾ tsp salt

Mix with a pastry blender or fork and crumble over apples. Do not press topping into fruit. Bake 35 minutes at 350°. Top with whipped cream or ice cream.
