Grandma Taylor’s Cake (Texas Sheet Cake)

Recipe Details

Cook Time: 15 Minutes
Ingredients:
  • 2 Cups Sugar
  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 1 Tsp Baking Soda
  • 3 Sticks of Butter
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 6 T Cocoa
  • 2 Eggs
  • ½ Cup Buttermilk
  • 5 T Milk (a little less than 1/3 cup)
  • 2 Tsp Vanilla
  • 4 Cups of Powdered Sugar
  • ½ Cup Chopped Nuts (opt)

Put together and set aside in a large bowl:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda

In pan on stove put:

  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 T cocoa

Stir and bring to a boil.  Pour over flour mix and add:

  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Beat all and pour into a large 17×11 cookie pan.  Bake 15 minutes at 400°.

5 minutes before cake is done start the frosting.

Frosting:

  • 1 stick butter
  • 3 T cocoa
  • 5 T milk (a little less than 1/3 cup)

Bring to a boil and add:

  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 4 cups of powdered sugar
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (opt)

Pour over cake as soon as cake is removed from oven.
